Creative Decor: Alternative Headboards

Don't have a million bucks to spend on a brand new bed frame and headboard? Looking for something creative to do that is inexpensive, but looks great in your room? Why not try one of these creative headboard ideas and give your bed a total makeover. You can use your existing mattress, box spring and metal frame (if you don't own a metal frame, they are very inexpensive to buy) and spoil yourself by buying some new bedsheets to complete the look.
Here are some ideas to get you started:

Love this room! Here, an old door paired with a vintage gate completes this headboard and the best part, it was free as both were found, one man's trash is another man's treasure.

A slab of roughhewn wood is a perfect match for this space and those colourful pillows. The wood headboard makes this room feel more warm and cozy! Although the wood is not cheap unless you can find it for free, it's still cheaper then buying something new and brings more character to the room.

Shutters have another great use besides windows, using them as a headboard is a creative idea for your bed makeover. You can usually find them in someones garbage for free or buy them at the antique market inexpensively. If they are in rough shape you can either paint them or leave them "as is" to give your bed that rustic look and did I mention that I'm totally in love with those eclectic letters above, what a good idea and how appropriate!

How unique is this headboard made from corrugated tin used most commonly for metal roofs. The great thing is you can cut it to any shape and style you like to give your bed a touch of glam. Also that wood wall is totally brilliant!

Old wood pallets a.k.a shipping crates can be used for so many things in your home decor and a headboard is no exception. Here, 2 wood pallets were hung on the wall side by side to create this fabulous headboard.

I posted this picture previously, under recent projects, I wanted an inexpensive way to revamp my bed, but everything I liked was way too expensive. My genius friend Renee, from Eat.Live.Shop gave me this suggestion of finding a cool door and hanging it on my wall, so that's exactly what I did. I found it on the curb, dragged it to my car and had it painted an off white colour. I love how the accent wall colour comes through the glass of this french door. What a score!

This reclaimed convenience store sign is a great vintage find and who would have thought of using it as a headboard. Not only does it look great, but it also brings some colour into the room. I will also take that vintage trumpet in the corner.

This last idea is also using doors. It seems to be a reoccurring theme in this post, but there are so many different styles to choose from that the look is always different. I posted this picture previously and I still love it nonetheless. I wouldn't change a thing on these doors because I love how the ruggedness compliments the delicate chandelier. These were most likely found at an antique market or garbage pile, either way, they are great!

Let me know which one is your favourite.
